What is Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic?
Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic is an antibiotic eye drop medication having two active ingredients, Tobramycin which the antibiotic and Dexamethasone which is a steroid. This medication is used for the treatment of bacterial eye infections. Dexamethasone in this medication acts against the swelling caused in the eye due to bacterial infections.
Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic is marketed and sold under various trade names, a couple of which are Toba DM (made by Sun Pharma) and Tobradex.
Important Information about Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic
Antibiotics are strictly prescription-only medications meaning that they should be taken only with a doctor’s prescription and not by your own will. Do not use Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic (Toba DM, Tobradex) if you are allergic to Tobramycin and Dexamethasone or if you have a viral or fungal infection in the eye. It will not cure a viral or fungal infection
Do not apply Tobramycin and Dexamethasone eye drops while you are wearing contact lenses. Ensure sufficient time after applying the eye drops before wearing lenses again. Ask your doctor about it.
Tobramycin and Dexamethasone is a classified pregnancy B drug meaning that it is not expected to harm an unborn baby if taken during pregnancy. However, you must ask your doctor if this medicine is safe to consume if you are pregnant. It is also unknown whether Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic can pass into breast milk and harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medicine without first consulting your doctor if you are breast feeding a baby

How should I use Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic?

Always store Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic medication in a cool and dark place, away from heat, light, and moisture.
What if I miss a dose?
Apply the miss dose as soon as your remember it and if the time to use the next dose is not near. In case if it is time for the next dose, then you can skip the missed dose and continue with the original schedule. Never take extra medicine to compensate for the missed dose.
What if I overdose?
An overdose of Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic is unlikely to occur. However, if you suspect that you have overdose on this medication, contact the Doctor immediately.
What should I avoid while using Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic?
Do not do any activities that require clear vision such as driving, handling heavy equipment, or other hazardous activities immediately after applying Tobramycin and Dexamethasone eye drops. Wait till you are sure that you can do them safely after your vision is restored. Avoid using other eye medication unless or otherwise advised by your doctor
Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic Side Effects
Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic is not expected to cause a serious side effect. However, you may experience some burning/stinging/irritation/redness in the eye which is treated. Other side effects include eyelid itching, eyelid swelling, blurred vision, or sensitivity to light. These effects are temporary and should go away after some time. However, if they persist or deteriorate, get medical attention right away.
