Arreno Capsule ER is a prescription-only, extended-release oral medication combining Aspirin 25 mg (immediate-release) and Dipyridamole 200 mg (extended-release), manufactured by Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd., India. Supplied as a strip of 10 capsules, it is used to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with a history of transient ischemic attack (TIA, or “mini-stroke”) or ischemic stroke due to blood clots. As an antiplatelet combination, it prevents excessive blood clotting, helping maintain blood flow to the brain.
Uses
Arreno Capsule ER is used to:
- Prevent recurrent stroke in patients who have had a TIA or ischemic stroke caused by thrombosis
- Reduce the risk of blood clot formation in high-risk patients, such as those with a history of cardiovascular events It does not eliminate stroke risk but significantly lowers it by preventing platelet aggregation.
Side Effects
- Common: Headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, heartburn, dizziness, indigestion
- Rare: Severe bleeding (e.g., stomach, brain), liver damage (yellow skin/eyes, dark urine), allergic reactions (hives, swelling), chest pain, hemorrhagic stroke Seek immediate medical help for severe bleeding, stroke symptoms (e.g., numbness, confusion), or persistent side effects.
How to Use
- Dosage: 1 capsule twice daily (morning and evening), as prescribed. If headaches occur initially, switch to 1 capsule at bedtime with low-dose aspirin in the morning for up to 1 week, then resume normal dosing.
- Swallow whole with water, with or without food. Do not crush, chew, or open the capsule. Take at consistent times daily.
- Overdose: Seek emergency help for symptoms like ringing in ears, sweating, restlessness, dizziness, or fast heartbeat.
How Capsule Works
Arreno combines two antiplatelet agents: Aspirin inhibits cyclooxygenase, reducing thromboxane A2 to prevent platelet aggregation, while Dipyridamole increases cyclic AMP, further inhibiting platelet clumping. Together, they reduce the formation of harmful blood clots, lowering stroke risk by maintaining blood flow to the brain.
Safety Advice
- Allergies: Avoid if allergic to Aspirin, Dipyridamole, NSAIDs, or ingredients. Not for patients with asthma, rhinitis, and nasal polyps due to risk of severe reactions.
- Health Conditions: Use cautiously with bleeding disorders, stomach ulcers, liver/kidney issues, heart disease, or low blood pressure. Not for severe renal failure (GFR <10 mL/min).
- Drug Interactions: Avoid with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), other antiplatelets, or NSAIDs due to increased bleeding risk. Inform your doctor of all medications.
- Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Unsafe in pregnancy (risk to fetus) and breastfeeding (may harm infant); consult your doctor.
- Driving: May cause dizziness; avoid driving if affected.
- Alcohol: Avoid, as it increases bleeding risk.
- Surgery: Stop 10 days before surgery, as advised by your doctor.
- Children: Not for children under 16 with viral infections due to Reye’s syndrome risk. Carry an anticoagulant alert card.
