Aromasin is the generic of Exemestane and it falls into a class of drugs known as an aromatase inhibitor. This medication is quite useful for treating and preventing certain types of breast cancer recurrence. It helps in treating hormone-dependent breast cancer by reducing estrogen levels in the body.
Uses of?Aromasin:
Exemestane is indicated for the treatment of breast cancer. It is only recommended for those women who no longer have their menstrual periods, either naturally (after menopause) or because they have had their ovaries surgically removed. The medicine also reduces the risk of spreading or recurrence of the breast cancer. It is also prescribed by the physician?s when cancer has not responded or has recurred after treating with other drugs. ?
Working of?Aromasin 25mg
Exemestane functions by inhibiting aromatase enzyme for the conversion of androgen to estrogen. Androgen is the primary source of estrogen in postmenopausal women. The medicine decreases circulating estrogen thereby decreasing the spreading of estrogen-sensitive breast cancer.
Do not take?Aromasin?if you:
Are a child
You have still your monthly period
Have a history of hypersensitivity to Exemestane or other components present in the medicine
Tell your doctor if you:
Are pregnant or a nursing women
Have a background of kidney disease
Are allergic to other substances such as food, dyes, or preservatives
Have a history or are suffering from a bone disorder
Have liver problems
Dosage
The recommended dose of the drug is 25 mg once daily. The treatment should continue until a progress of the tumor development is clearly seen. The safety of chronic dosing in patients with kidney and liver disease has not been demonstrated.
How to take?Aromasin?
The medicine should be taken daily after consuming food. It comes in 25 mg tablet for oral administration.
Do not discontinue the treatment even if you notice an improvement or are feeling well unless your doctor tells you. Do not take the double dose or overdose to compensate the missed dose.?
Side Effects of?Aromasin:
The side effects of the medicine are usually mild to moderate. The most commonly experienced side effects are fatigue, hot flushes and arthralgia (joint pain). You can also experience some other side effects such as:
Dyspepsia
Constipation
Abdominal pain
Increased blood bilirubin
Anorexia
Vomiting
Alopecia
Nausea
Increased sweating

Generalized exanthematous pustulosis

Things to Remember:
Exemestane should be taken after a meal at the same time each day.
