How to Use Irban 5 mg

• Dosage:

  • Adults <75 years: Start 5 mg twice daily with meals; may adjust to 2.5–7.5 mg twice daily based on heart rate (target >50 bpm) and symptoms.

  • Adults ≥75 years: Start 2.5 mg twice daily; titrate cautiously.

  • Children ≥6 months, <40 kg: 0.05 mg/kg twice daily, adjusted by doctor (max 7.5 mg twice daily).

  • Children ≥40 kg: Start 2.5 mg twice daily, adjusted as needed.

• Administration: Swallow whole with water, with meals (morning/evening, ~12 hours apart). Do not crush/chew. Use oral syringe for solution in children.

• Missed Dose: Skip missed dose; resume schedule. Do not double dose.

How Tablet Works

Ivabradine, a hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) channel blocker, selectively inhibits the cardiac pacemaker current (If) in the sinus node, reducing heart rate by ~5–10 bpm without affecting blood pressure or contractility. This lowers the heart’s oxygen demand, relieving angina and improving heart function in heart failure.

Safety Advice

• Allergies: Avoid if allergic to Ivabradine or excipients (e.g., lactose).

• Health Conditions: Contraindicated in severe liver disease, sick sinus syndrome, heart block, resting heart rate <70 bpm (adults), cardiogenic shock, or unstable heart failure. Caution in mild/moderate kidney disease, hypotension, or long QT syndrome.
